Gum Paste Roses 1.04.2011

I have always loved the way a cake looks with roses on it, weither they are real, silk, or gum paste. I wanted to try the gum paste rose and I was pretty happy with the way they turned out. I made three of them and let them dry over night and now they are pretty solid. I am still totally amazed about what you can do with gum paste. To me gum paste is like edible play-doh. I will be doing superhero gum paste items on an upcoming cake and I am so excited about it. I'll be posting pictures or those and that cake when it gets closer.

John's 37th Birthday Cake 12.31.2010

I was telling my sister-in-law about how I was getting into making cakes and she was interested in having me make her husband's birthday cake. She originally wanted a John Deere tire cake, but changed her mind because she wasn't sure if everyone would like the black fondant. So I showed her a few other cakes and she liked them and then said it was pretty much up to me. I combined a few of the cake ideas and made a cake of my own. This cake was a 9in and a 12in double layer cake with butter cream frosting all around and in between. I was a great cake, everyone loved it. I still have to post a picture of this one as well.

Ami's 32nd Birthday Cake 12.29.2010

My good friend Ami ask me to make a cake for her son's birthday, however you can't sell a cake to someone who hasn't tried them yet. So I made her a birthday cake even though her birthday was a few days away. She is a diva, and I love her. She knows how to have fun and knows how to be herself and that is awesome. She is one of my idols and I totally adore her. So for her I chose to make a pink zebra cake with a pink stiletto on top! The cake was funfetti (cause that is the pick of flavor for her son's at the time) and I put homemade buttercream frosting on it too. Now all I have to do is post a picture of it.

Brianna's Surprise Birthday Cake 12.01.2010

I made this cake for a lovely young lady, her name is Brianna. It was a chocolate cake with chocolate frosting, all which were homemade and yummy! I messed up a little on the wording, I am still working on that part.

Faith's 12th Birthday Cake 11.12.2010

Faith had three parties this year (lucky her). That meant that she had a few different cakes too. For the first party I made her a slice of pickle cake (this was for her party with her friends). This was a marble cake with store bought frosting and fondant (my first attempt with fondant) For the second party I made marble cupcakes with green frosting, these were for my families party. For the last party I created a peace sign cake for my hubby's family. This cake was funfetti with store bought frosting and sprinkles. Everyone enjoyed all the baked goods and that made me want to start making and selling cakes. I have to say that I really think I have a knack for it! So, this is how my cake making journey began.
